Welcome to the wastelands...

This site is the base for the Factious Waste Live Campaign, War 1984.

Factious Waste is a character-driven tabletop skirmish game by Oakbound Studio. To play in the War 1984 Campaign you will need a copy of the core rules which can be downloaded via the sidebar on the right and/or a copy of the Factious Waste rulebook which can be purchased in PDF form from Oakbound Studio (see link to the right). You will also need to follow the site (see link to the right) to be able to post your updates.

At the top of this page is a list of the various factions which inhabit the wastelands. Below that you can find entries for the main locations in the region.

Each Sunday we will post updates on one or more location pages giving new contract possibilities, scrap leads, special offers in the markets and situations which could form the basis of games. There will also be posts with news about developments in the region. Whenever you play a game or advance your gang add a comment onto the relevant event and it will shape the direction of events.

If you would like to create a page for your gang or post a full report of your games we would love to have your content on the site. Simply send the admins a message via the contact form at the bottom of the page and we can add you to the team.

Trash Runners

The actual job of hauling waste and raw materials to and from inworld into outworld is the task of the Trash Runners. This is a general term which covers anyone with a mode of transport they put to such use. Trash Running is a legendary occupation, the stuff of dreams. To join a Runner Posse is one of the highest honours that can be achieved outworld. In the streets of wasteland cities children play at being Trash Runners. Whenever a convoy comes into town it is flanked by screaming fans. Trash Runners are the rock stars of the new age.

Given their reputation, and since transport and fuel are hard to come by, someone setting themselves up as a Trash Runner quickly attracts a gang of followers offering their services. Few would not swap their drudgery in the processors and power-gennies for the dangerous life of the wasteland warrior.

Finance for Trash Runner outfits comes almost exclusively from the ReFrat Dons who commission the posse’s services to retrieve rubbish and bring it safely back to the CycCentres for reprocessing. GenPower loathes the Runners as they are a symbol of freedom and the means by which the ReFrat are able to flourish– both things GenPower desires to crush. For a long time GenTV broadcast terror propaganda against the crimes of the Trash Runners but this just made the wasteland warriors even more popular, people love the bad guy. In some of the more progressive GenCities the Runner image is now used as a marketing image and a few directors have begun engaging the posses on their own errands. Traditional GenPower directors see this as a dangerous and disconcerting trend.

There’s good living to be had if a Trash Runner gang can prove their worth to their employers. Each gang is very different, with their own preferred approach to waste haulage. They are fiercely territorial and always looking to expand the boundaries of their ‘routes’, which places them in constant conflict with other Runners and the NeoPrimitives whose sacred tribelands they rampage across.

Successful Trash Runners are something of celebrities outworld, with ReFrat families paying good wages for reliable services. The domestic printers and home appliances which satisfy the workers are of no use in the mobile lives of the Runners, so gangs are paid in fuel and freedom; rare RPG (Re-Processed Gas) for their vehicles and licences to go anywhere and act as they will across ReFrat territory. Of course, much of ReFrat territory is also claimed by NeoPrimitive tribes and Artisan Collectives for whom the Runners can be bitter enemies. Smart Runners go out of their way to befriend Primitives and Artisans, ensuring their routes will be unhindered and any rivals will be sure to meet problems. The skills of collectives are invaluable when it comes to the archaic and somewhat arcane technology Trash Runners are forced to employ much of the time.

A well-patronized Runner gang will also have the pick of armaments made in processors for the ReFrat themselves or smuggled from inworld. Less supported gangs must make do with what they can scrounge, ever hopeful of acquiring precious contracts. .
